House In Konkan

Konkan region in Maharashtra is known for its natural beauty and subtropical climate. Proposed house is a weekend retreat for a Mumbai based family.
The rectangular site located 350km south of Mumbai experiences heavy rainfall with hot and dry summer months. Thereby, the design for the house has been
influenced by local climate and surroundings. Maximum attempt has been made to restrict the building footprint as minimal as possible to ensure a spatial
experience. Pitched roof with long projecting eaves has been provided
all around to shield the interiors from heavy rains and harsh sun. Ample amount of cross‐ventilation provides additional comfort to the users indoors.
Partly covered verandah acts as a semi outdoor space for the house. Sloping roof coalesces the super structure and thus merges it with surrounding environment. Local material such as laterite stone has been used along
with concrete to minimize costs and make the house ecofriendly. Native tree species have been selected for landscaping as they do not incur excess water consumption and maintenance.

Plot area: 10000 sq.ft Built up: 2225 sq.ft
